Description of project

The Coles Supermarket division continued their safety identification and rectification program across Australia. Works included replacement of defective electrical switches to front end checkouts with new improved control switches. Delicatessen department upgraded with the installation of protective IP56 sleeving to cover flexible cords on slicing machines, switch protection rails and RCD protection of donut machines.

The project had many challenges, working while stores were trading, tight delivery time frames and availability of materials to name just a few. With a team effort from project managers and site staff across Australia, the project was completed to budget and on time.

Coles Express Petrol division also awarded SJ Electric the contract for 48 sites across Australia.

The contract required power upgrades, switchboard installations and safety surveys of the existing electrical installation to allow for new site electrical equipment to be installed. The project required in many locations, transformer replacements, road works, switchboard replacements and RCD protection to all power outlets.

With a diverse range of site locations and state regulations across Australia many and varied challenges needed to be addresses and solutions implemented. With the assistance of SJ Electric national project managers, state supply authorities and client cooperation during store trading and arranging for power shut downs, this sometimes difficult project was completed with positive results.
