Occupational Health and Safety

As part of the SJ ELECTRIC ongoing commitment to Occupational Health and Safety including the Environment it recognises the positive influence that a Managed Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Program provides.
SJ ELECTRIC have adopted a Systematic approach providing Continuous Improvement with the aim of exceeding its moral, legal and economic obligations to reduce its Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Risk to a minimum acceptable level. In achieving this level the Objectives of the Occupational Health, Safety and Environment Systems are:

  • To promote and secure the Safety Health and Welfare of persons employed by SJ ELECTRIC and that of persons who by location may be affected by its operations.
  • To identify areas of risk at the project planning stage and to introduce strategies to eliminate or control them.
  • To provide a Safe System of work.
  • To define areas of responsibility.
  • To reduce, eliminate and control the hazards to which persons are exposed to.
  • To assist in securing Safe and Hygienic work Environments.
  • To conduct regular workplace inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the Safety Management Plan.
  • To provide such information, instruction, training and supervision to all employees as is necessary to enable them to carry out their work.
  • To foster co-operation and consultation between and to provide for the participation of both employee and employer in the formulation and implementation of Safety Health and the Environment Standards.

With the above Objectives the goal of SJ ELECTRIC is to reduce its Accident/Incident rate by reducing the exposure to Risk to "As low as is reasonably practicable"

 

The key elements that have been identified as being crucial to ensuring the achievements of the goal are:

  • The setting of achievable standards.
  • Strong emphasis on Continuous Improvement action plans.
  • Consultation at all levels with a pro-active approach to team work.
  • The conducting of Work Method Statements, Job Safety Analysis and formation of Safe Work Procedures.
  • The conducting of Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Programs.
  • The constant monitoring/auditing of projects and associated work areas including the Environment.
  • Effective Training Programs including New and Transferee Inductions.
  • Conducting Safety Tool Box meetings.
